ANTIQUE IMPERIAL & METRIC GLASS APOTHECARY MEASURING CYLINDER DUAL-SCALE FLUID OUNCES & MILLILITRES
(c. 1910s–1930s)

PRICE: £30
A fine and highly utilitarian early 20th-century clear glass apothecary measuring cylinder, presenting an excellent bridge between traditional British weights and measures and continental metric systems. This specimen features a straight, vertical cylindrical body crafted with a hand-formed pouring spout at the rim and rests on a short, flat circular pedestal foot. The exceptional interest of this laboratory piece lies in its precise, dual-sided engraved calibration scales: The primary face displays the British Imperial measurement system. It features a perfectly straight vertical line intersected by ten horizontal graduations extending to the right, precisely numbered "1 2 4 6 8 10" and crowned with the abbreviation "FL>Oz" (Fluid Ounces). To the left of the main scale, the maximum tenth-ounce line extends outward to mark the "1/2" pint capacity, topped with the word "PINT". Running vertically along the left margin, the formal stamp "MADE IN ENGLAND" is deeply engraved into the glass. The opposing face features a clean vertical line with nine highly regular horizontal increments calibrating the metric system. It tracks volumetric capacity from bottom to top with the numerical engravings "50, 100, 150, 200, 250" and is labeled at the summit with "MIL" (millilitres), showcasing its transitional use in a professional dispensing environment. Condition: Offered in honest, stable antique condition. The clear glass structure is entirely sound, with no structural cracks, fractures, or chips on the pouring rim or base. The glass body exhibits a genuine working patina, including a few tiny enclosed manufacturing air bubbles, two very light surface scratches, and a dense scattering of minute, historic chemical splatter or pitting incrusted onto the glass surface, heavily reinforcing its authentic laboratory provenance. All hand-engraved typography and lines remain perfectly crisp and legible. Dimensions:
