PRICE: £75
A magnificent, museum-grade Interwar Georgian clear glass apothecary verification standard cylinder. Exhibiting exceptional weight, thickness, and structural density, this rare institutional vessel was engineered as an official "Local Standard Gauge" for government inspectors to verify the accuracy of commercial trade measures. Architecturally distinct, the cylinder features a hand-formed pouring spout and rests upon a prominent, well-defined bulbous heel—clearly demarcated and narrower than the main body—resting on a solid circular pedestal foot with a characteristically recessed, non-flat center. The front profile displays beautifully executed calibration scales featuring traditional, hand-cut copper-wheel engravings. The numbers (1 to 10) and letters are rendered in a distinct, formal antiquarian style utilizing precise thick-and-thin serif strokes. To the right of the numerical sequence, the apex is inscribed with the historical apothecary symbol for fluid ounces ("Fl O" surmounted by heavy horizontal verification bars). The maximum tenth line extends to the left, marked with the numeral "2" alongside "IMP PINT" and "PINT" below, confirming its official Imperial Pint capacity. Directly below the engraved "PINT" inscription on the front face, the cylinder features its official, acid-etched matrix of Crown Verification Marks, proving its institutional status. This includes the George V royal cipher stamp (G2R), accompanying regional excise or district codes (GRU or GRD), an inverted broad arrow ordnance mark (pheon), and the inspector's specific district registration number "141" featuring a downward arrow under the middle digit. The remarkable thickness of the glass was a strict legal requirement of the British Board of Trade, ensuring the vessel remained completely stable against thermal expansion and physical shock during official field inspections. Condition: Offered in excellent, pristine antique condition. Completely free from cracks, structural flaws, or chips on the thick pouring rim and unique pedestal base. The early hand-engraved scales, characterful thick-and-thin typography, and the official inspector ciphers on the main body remain incredibly crisp, deeply struck, and perfectly legible. A premier collector's piece of British legal, scientific, and state history. Dimensions:
