VINTAGE BOOTS CASH CHEMISTS POISON BOTTLE
WOODBRIDGE, SUFFOLK (c. 1930s-1940s)

PRICE: £38
A magnificent and highly collectible regional piece of East Anglian pharmaceutical history: an emerald green glass poison bottle issued by Britain's most iconic high-street chemist. Standing at a compact 11cm in height, this classic hexagonal specimen features three smooth panels alternating with three deeply ribbed panels—a tactile safety design engineered to prevent accidental poisoning in low light. The warning "NOT TO BE TAKEN" is sharply embossed in crisp relief directly into the glass shoulder, while the base reveals the distinctive factory mould code "L 471D 2". Of exceptional rarity for social history collectors, the bottle retains its complete, authentic green paper label with its traditional crisp white border. Although naturally peeling slightly at the edges due to age, the text remains entirely intact and vividly legible, reading: "POISON NOT TO BE TAKEN". The bottom of the label explicitly details its historic retail provenance: "SOLD BY Boots CASH CHEMISTS (EASTERN) LIMITED, 18 Thoroughfare, Woodbridge (Suffolk)", anchoring this artifact directly to Boots' historic Grade II listed premises in the heart of the Suffolk market town. Condition: Offered without a stopper, the emerald green glass is in immaculate structural condition with no chips, cracks, or atmospheric clouding. The paper label is wonderfully preserved for its age. A pristine, top-tier specimen perfect for serious collectors of regional English chemist antiquities or Boots corporate heritage items.
