CLARKE & CLARKE (c. 1930s-1940s)

PRICE: £35
An authentic Late Interwar to Second World War era British green glass chemist bottle, standing at a substantial 15.7cm tall. This traditional hexagonal safety specimen features three smooth panels alternating with three deeply ribbed panels—an ingenious historical design engineered for tactile identification in the dark. The bold cautionary warning "NOT TO BE TAKEN" is sharply embossed in crisp relief directly onto the glass shoulder, while the base retains its clean industrial mould capacity markings: "8OZ 200". Of premium interest to social history collectors, the bottle retains its rare, original vintage brown paper retail label. Though exhibiting some authentic, light age-related wear and minor tearing along the borders, the text remains entirely legible and sharply defined. The typography reads: "NOT TO BE TAKEN", followed by the historic South London trading details: "CLARKE & CLARKE LTD, DISPENSING CHEMISTS, 16 GREENWICH CHURCH STREET, S.E.10 And CHARLTON & BATTERSEA", anchoring this artifact directly to the historic maritime heart of Greenwich. Condition: Presented without a stopper, the vibrant emerald green glass is in excellent structural condition with no cracks, chips, or cloudiness. The glass matrix holds beautiful, tiny air bubbles from the manufacturing process. The historic Greenwich and Battersea provenance, combined with the pristine embossed features, makes this a wonderful narrative piece of London's pharmaceutical heritage, perfect for a curated curiosity cabinet or Scientifica display.
