PRICE: £24
A fascinating and remarkably complete early 20th-century medical artifact, featuring a fully glass-constructed hypodermic or dispensing syringe housed within its original protective metal casing. The outfit includes a rectangular tinplate (fer blanc) box with smoothly rounded corners, designed for field transport and sterilization. Internally, the kit retains its clever original metal rack/insert. This integrated cradle consists of a solid base fitted with two open spring-clips that securely hold the barrel, flanked by four defensive metal prongs (two on each side) engineered to protect the glass cylinder from striking the outer walls of the tin during transit. The syringe itself is beautifully crafted from thick, clear glass. The outer barrel features crisp volumetric calibrations running from 1 to 10 CC (Cubic Centimetres). The solid glass plunger (piston) is ground to a perfectly straight cylinder to maintain vacuum precision, terminating in an integrated, widened flat glass disc button for thumb pressure. Condition: The glass syringe is in excellent condition, completely free from cracks, deep scores, or chips along the collar and nozzle. The plunger moves smoothly within the barrel. The original tinplate box and its internal structural rack are structurally sound and stable, showing a rich, honest oxidized patina and light historical surface wear appropriate for its age, adding magnificent decorative character.
