PRICE: £45
A beautiful Late Victorian clear glass apothecary town bottle, standing at an elegant intermediate height of 16.5cm. This characterful specimen features its original, premium 'Label Under Glass' (LUG) shelf cartouche, decorated with rich gold leaf work and a traditional black border. The antique serif lettering reads: "EX: CASCAR: L:", denoting Extractum Cascarae Liquidum (Liquid Extract of Cascara Sagrada)—the most famous and widely prescribed botanical laxative of the Victorian era, derived from the bark of the sacred buckthorn. Perfectly suited for an authentic cabinet of curiosities display, the bottle remains firmly sealed by time with its original, matching ground-glass stopper. Trapped at the bottom is approximately 3cm of the genuine, dark organic liquid extract from over a century ago—a remarkable survival that brings immense narrative power to the piece. Condition: The clear antique glass body is in superb structural condition with no chips or cracks, showing a light, authentic surface patina from historic pharmacy handling. The gilded glass label remains beautifully preserved. A highly atmospheric piece, perfect for creating a layered, multi-sized shelf arrangement in a private gallery or Scientifica collection.
