VINTAGE ST BARTHOLOMEW'S HOSPITAL
DISPENSARY BOTTLE (c. 1930s–1950s)
|
PRICE: £25
An exceptional piece of London institutional history, originating directly from the dispensary of St Bartholomew's Hospital (Barts) in the City of London. Standing at 8.5cm tall with a 3.5cm cylindrical diameter, this clear glass bottle features deep archival embossing on its base: "UGB" (United Glass Bottle Manufacturers) alongside the industrial factory mold codes "A52 / C30". The front face retains its rare, original hospital-issued paper label. Printed in sharp black typography, the header reads: "The Dispensary / St. Bartholomew's Hospital E.C.1". Below the institution name, the label features an unfilled period prescription formula template: ".................... DROPS (Min..........) to be taken ....................... a day in milk." Left blank by the hospital chemist, this unwritten dosage table transforms the specimen into a fascinating, untouched archival relic of mid-century metropolitan healthcare. Condition: Offered without a closure, the clear glass structure is in excellent, stable condition with no chips, cracks, or internal sickness. The original paper label shows a wonderful, authentic time-stained patina; it exhibits historic paper loss to the upper left and upper right corners—partially obscuring the final character of the E.C.1 postal code—which adds immense character, integrity, and genuine archaeological provenance to the piece. A highly collectable find for curators of Londoniana or medical history. Dimensions:
