PRICE: £85
An imposing and highly dramatic Late Victorian clear glass apothecary shelf town bottle, standing at an impressive 24cm tall. This master display piece proudly retains its stunning, original premium 'Label Under Glass' (LUG) shelf cartouche, decorated with rich gold leaf work and a traditional black border. The antique serif typography reads: "TR: CINCH: CO:", denoting Tinctura Cinchonae Composita (Compounded Tincture of Cinchona)—a famous historic malaria remedy and bitter febrifuge tonic crafted from Peruvian bark. In exceptional condition for an advanced cabinet of curiosities, the bottle remains sealed by time with its original, heavy, square-topped clear glass stopper, which is permanently stuck. Trapped inside is roughly one-third of the authentic, dark amber-coloured organic liquid medicine from over a century ago—a striking physical testament to Victorian pharmaceutical preparation. Condition: The antique glass body is remarkably clean with no major scratches, chips, or cracks. The gilded glass label remains beautifully sharp and vibrant. With its large scale, vivid gold labelling, and original dark fluids, this museum-quality specimen offers unparalleled atmospheric charm for a private gallery or an elite Scientifica collection.
